Spend a few minutes watching children in nature, and you’ll notice something important: they don’t need to be told what to do.
They build. They climb. They imagine. They test the edges of what feels possible.
Our developing Woodland Way all natural playground areas are designed to support exactly that kind of experience.
Here, play is not structured; it’s discovered. Logs become balance beams. Sticks become tools. Open space becomes a possibility.
Thanks to our collaboration with former New York State Senator Sean Ryan and Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds, the field north of the beaver pond will soon be home to an expanded Woodland Way playscape. Children will climb, build, learn, and imagine in a living space made of natural logs, boulders, native plants, and more—from a towering, accessible giraffe swing to a nook nestled between two berms where children can learn about nature in nature, or parents can enjoy their own space while kids play.
This project is more than play; it’s pedagogy. It reflects our belief that unstructured outdoor play builds significant cognitive, physical, social, and emotional benefits. It enhances brain development, creativity, and problem-solving skills while improving physical health through increased motor skills, coordination, and vitamin D levels. Play in nature also builds resilience, confidence, and social skills like cooperation, communication, and conflict resolution.
Construction planning is underway, with groundbreaking anticipated for summer 2026. Community partnerships, donors, and local volunteers are invited to join in the creation of this extraordinary space for future generations.
These are not playgrounds in the traditional sense. They are environments for discovery, where children can build, imagine, and take small, meaningful risks in a setting that feels both safe and wild.
